No, I just got the impression you don't really like it since you called it a downgrade in all respects. Obviously that was the focus and not the combat. If it was rushed, it wouldn't have so many tombs and crypts to explore. Because to me it feels like a conscious decision to reduce the amount of action, not a consequence of the game being rushed. My whole point is that the game feels rushed and the fact that there's less action (again, however heavy or light it is), feels like a consequence of it. Doesn't matter if you want it for the sake it of it or if you only want if it has a purpose behind it-the fact is you wanted a combat heavy, actiony game. The fact that you want more of it, regardless of the form it takes, means you want more action out of a game that has a different focus. Yes, there is very little of it on purpose. Also, what I'm saying is that regardless of it being more or less heavy, there's very little of it. I enjoy it when there's a purpose or a background to it. I didn't want more action, I don't like shooting for the sake of shooting because I'm not 12. So basically, you're intentionally disregarding what I'm saying and making your own narrative. And that's why I'll argue the game had to be leaned down. To me, seems like they invested an awful lot of time into something that's barely used.

I don't see a universe where Shadow couldn't have had the same great tombs while having more opportunities to use the combat mechanics that they went through the trouble of creating specifically for Shadow. My whole point is that the game feels rushed and the fact that there's less action (again, however heavy or light it is), feels like a consequence of it rather than a deliberate choice.Īnd honestly, if it was intentional, then dumb decision by Crystal Dynamics because apparently, even if by not a crushing margin, the fact is more people wanted more action, as the figures would show. What I'm saying is that regardless of it being more or less heavy, there's very little of it.

I didn't want "more action", I don't like shooting for the sake of shooting because I'm not 12. You can love them both equally, even if for different reasons. Honestly, though, you don't even need to choose a favourite game. And I love Lara's character arc in this game, even if the plot itself has some faults. On the other hand, Shadow has top notch tombs and puzzles, a great OST, and a vibe that I just love (love me some jungles and mesoamerican cultures). The story is also really well told in my opinion, even if a bit adventure-clichê, and I think Lara should have had a stronger character arc. But I tend to go in favour of Rise because it is a more balanced and polished game, with many different and interesting game modes aside of just chunks of the main game played in different ways (I still maintain that a expanded Endurance mode, maybe with a TR-spin on the battle royale genre, could be a great source of income to keep financing the main TR games). I also am very split between if I prefer Rise or Shadow, too games that I absolutely love and are in my top 4 TR games. TR2013 is too action oriented and too light on puzzles, so it feels a bit too far from the franchise's roots. But thats just me, thanks for coming to my TEDtalk. And rise felt to focused on gunplay vs trinity (if gunplay was my main concern id play CSGO). Ive started a playthrough for 100% in rise like 3 times, and could never actually finish it, it just doesnt feel as rewarding as shadow to explore.

And while there may have been less combat than rise it felt more diverse as well, the jaguars/wolves, the Yaaxil, Trinity/Cult of Kulkulkan (and the combat is challenging if you play on high difficulty). the hunting/resources/crafting was diverse. there were tons of side quests and exploring every nook and cranny felt rewarding. the perks were cool and useful without feeling broken. the market/vendor system in shadow was much better than rise. both rise and shadow look good, both were fun to play through, but shadow is the only one ive dedicated the time to complete 100% on highest difficulty.
